What is Kundalini Yoga?
As I always say to new students: "The best description you could have of Kundalini Yoga is your own experience of it."
Until you have that experience, here is another way of looking at it . . .
The ancient sacred science of Kundalini Yoga was introduced to the west in 1969 by Yogi Bhajan, Master of White Tantric Yoga. Also referred to as “the householder’s yoga” on account of its powerful, fast-track nature, Kundalini Yoga is ideal for those who seek expanded consciousness amidst the daily challenges of today’s world: jobs, businesses, families, social pressures and general stressors.
Kundalini Yoga combines specific postures (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), hand positions (mudras), meditation and the use of sound vibrations (e.g. mantras in the ancient sacred languages of Sanskrit and Gurmukhi). Together, in prescribed sequences (kriyas), these create specific, positively transforming effects.
There are thousands of powerful Kundalini Yoga kriyas and meditations, each designed to address just about any imaginable aspect of self and life: love, abundance, healing, courage, releasing the past, opening the heart to attract opportunities, letting go of unwanted habits . . . the list goes on.
Kundalini Yoga is not a religion. As with any form of yoga (derived from the Sanskrit word yuj meaning ‘yoke’), it enables one to achieve union with the Divine/one’s Higher Self.
Benefits of regular Kundalini Yoga practice include:
- relaxation
- more energy
- increased creativity
- expanded awareness
- increased ability to focus
- balancing of the emotions
- strengthened nervous system
- greater clarity
- increased flexibility
- development of personal discipline
- the healing of body, mind and spirit
- removal of blocks to personal fulfillment
- opening of the heart to attract opportunities and healthy relationships
- strength to overcome and release unwanted habits and modes of behaviour
