Prison Outreach: FREE MINDS, FREE SPIRITS

In September 2010, with the help of kind donations, Thou Art Yoga purchased forty yoga mats and began teaching fortnightly Saturday afternoon Kundalini Yoga classes to inmates at the Women's Prison.
Entitled Free Minds, Free Spirits, the Kundalini Yoga initiative is designed to bring physical exercise, meditation, breathing techniques, chanting and stress relief/relaxation to the inmates. Each session equips the women with practical, powerful tools for ongoing positive personal transformation. The intention is to eventually increase the frequency of the classes offered.
(Thou Art Yoga thanks the Soroptimist Club for making the prison visits possible).
Below are a few comments from prisoners:
" I haven’t seen or touched my daughter in a long time, but today during that meditation I did." (Female inmate after Ra Ma Da Sa healing meditation)
"I had given up on God for good. But after our first yoga class last week I pulled out my Bible, got on my knees and prayed. I been praying ever since. Yoga brought me back to God." (Inmate, after class).
“I felt like my body was lying still in a field and clouds were passing over me.” (Inmate, after deep relaxation)
“I was by the sea and waves were washing over me.” (Inmate, after deep relaxation)
“Last week for Ra Ma Da Sa you told us to see the energy going to someone we love. I sent it to someone who’s far away and I know he felt it. How come that’s possible?” (Inmate)
