TESTIMONIALS by students of Thou Art Yoga
I never tried kundalini yoga till I was given an extraordinary gift for my birthday, a WOW (Wonderful One Weekend) retreat This was a customised, one on one retreat where it’s all about you. My hostess and guide during this journey was the exceptionally talented, incredibly creative Elspeth Duncan. I had no idea what I was in store for. As part of this retreat, Elspeth introduced me to kundalini yoga which was quite different from the other forms I have had experience with. This connected with something far deeper than just the wonderful physical benefits, it resonated with my soul.
With Elspeth as my teacher and guide, her enthusiasm was infectious. She kept the practice sessions simple and customised to my needs. At the end of these sessions I felt renewed, inspired, energised and grounded. This overall feeling of well-being stayed with me and continues to this day!
I highly recommend Elspeth’s retreats and classes. Many of us lead stressful lives where emotional reserves are drained. This compromises our ability to cope and successfully surf the uncertainty that is life. Time with Elspeth literally energises our batteries and refills these precious reserves. The stars truly shine brighter after.

I love my Friday night Kundalini yoga class! It has just the right balance of strenuous kriyas (even though I feel like I won't make it through them), relaxation, and chanting. Sometimes Elspeth sings and plays the guitar, sometimes she plays a cd, always it is a soothing, healing time. I love our greeting/checking in and our farewell song "May the longtime sun shine upon you" and our closing 'sat nams'. Elspeth is a caring teacher who knows what she is doing. I look forward to each class and leave with a sense of accomplishment that "I did it"! (J.A.)
Every time I am finished with Yoga class...I say "wow, this felt really good today". (Veronika said the other day: "You always say that after class....wasn't really aware of it). Not sure exactly what it is but it's just an overall great feeling of having done some physical work as well as relaxation, total calming of the mind and spirit...having spent time with myself and the universe as well as with a great teacher and wonderful group members...!! I find we should do it twice per week!! (C.G.)
My feeling about Friday yoga class : The special yoga "workouts" - a challenge for my body - but it needs them, and they make me feeling stronger and more powerful. Singing the Mantras - I like that, the sanskrit brings me to my center. This special atmosphere, that is surrounding you, Elspeth, and everytime your unexpected new creative ideas that let me grow and bring blessings to the class and spreads all over the world and to the universe - I am happy to be in this class ! (C.D.)
...a commitment I made to myself, a `Treat´I give to myself: to be under the `Ajupa´ at Kariwak, on Fridays at 6pm - to be gentle guided by the ThouArtYoga Instructor Elspeth Duncan to strengthen & awakening my Kundalini. It is wonderful to be in a Circle of `Like-minded`Souls---> It is helping me to be even more dedicated &consistent ... just by breathing mindfully I am feeling a different ME - this allows myself Let go, to Grow & to Flow...Thank you;-) (V.D.)
Over the years I have found myself repeatedly drawn to Kundalini yoga classes for the holistic approach that they take. During the past 5 months, after a long hiatus, I began taking Thou Art Yoga classes. The most dramatic improvements have been in my ability to hold my breath for long periods underwater - at least 100% better, and the noticeable increase in my upper body strength. I just finished a 20 mile 2 day forest hike with a heavy pack and without these classes I would have been in a lot of pain. Instead I find myself with zero discomfort. There are other benefits. The meditation exercises are supremely calming and the camaraderie of the other students has been a totally unexpected bonus. I highly recommend anything held by Thou Art Yoga (G.G)
I’ve been attending Elspeth’s Kundalini Yoga classes since September 2010. I was completely new to any forms of Yoga but through her patience, understanding and knowledge, I have come to really appreciate all that Kundalini Yoga has to offer . I see myself growing and blossoming because of all that I am learning, feeling and understanding during Elspeth’s classes. She is always encouraging and interested in the development and growth of her students, and is ever ready to provide supplemental reading materials or website links that she knows will benefit us.
Kundalini Yoga is an important part of Elspeth’s life and this translates to the way she teaches the form to us. Her connection to and belief in the science of Kundalini Yoga has made it more enjoyable and enlightening for me, and it has quickly became a part of my life I cannot imagine being without. It has given me the promise of mental, physical and spiritual balance. I feel connected to my mind, body and spirit in a way I never really trusted before, and this makes me very happy. (N.B.)
Kundalini Yoga has changed my life drastically by helping me to heal serious depression. It changes my brain chemistry - I always feel great after class even if I felt down before we started. I am benefiting from practicing long, deep breathing which has become part of my daily life especially in times of high stress.
I must say that I enjoy group yoga immensely as I feel inspired by my teacher and the other students. I tried two other types of yoga but they do not compare to Kundalini. KY is highly spiritual and this complements the physical aspect beautifully.
I have to say that the skype yoga experience far exceeded my expectations. It felt just as personal. Everything was clear and there were little or no glitches during the experience. I enjoyed it thoroughly and right now am feeling so calm and relaxed. i wish we could keep doing this kriya for the next few weeks. My aura feels so energized and clean. Its a first for us and a successful one at that. Congrats and I love my yoga family.
